MY ARTBOOK
What is an Art Book? Watch this presentation
An art book is a piece of art, like a painting or a sculpture, a work of artistic expression in the form of a book. On the one hand, the work should be read, which means that the audience must be able to turn its pages. These pages can take any form you like, made of different materials, stiff or flexible. They can be loose or stationary, but they must all be done by the artist’s own hand.
OBJECTIVE:
Review activity of everything we’ve learned in
class through the creation of a
personal piece of art.
TIMELINE: all year long
DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY:
An art book is a piece of art, like a painting or
a sculpture, a work of artistic expression in the form of a book. On the one hand, the work should be read,
which means that the audience must be able to turn its pages. These pages can take any form you like, made
of different materials, stiff or flexible.
They can be loose or stationary, but they must all be done by the
artist’s own hand.
In our art book, the pages should be drawings and
images that summarize the themes
that we have learned about this year.
On the other hand, your work of art must have a
common theme, either procedural or conceptual, which in our case will be one colour (or a range of colours) which the student will choose freely to
complete his/her book: only one colour for all the pages, covers included.
We will set a
common sizing format for everyone: 12x12 cm sheets. With this in mind, all other materials and
techniques used will be at the student’s discretion, as well as the final
binding of the art book.
MATERIALS:
12x12 cm sheets or paper or other material
Any technique that may be required for any
drawing (coloured pencils, ink, markers, graphite, collage, tempera paints,
watercolours…)
PROCEDURE:
1. Choose a colour with which you identify yourself in some way.
2. Compile information from the internet about art books, looking for
examples
3. Think about the binding or formal concept for you book, (fanned,
standard book, sewn together, box or container…)
4. Gather different types of materials that can be used as pages or as
covers (don’t forget to stick to the colour you have chosen on every page).
5. Review all the different projects we have done over the course of the
year, and start drawing your pages, summarizing from what you have learned
(straight line drawings, polygons, textures, tessellations, different painting
techniques, collage, etc.)
6. Pay special attention to the originality and neatness of your
artwork. Think of it as a work of art
created by you, unique and personal.
DUE DATE:
You will have to turn in at least three pages of the book (double sided) at
the end of each trimester, so they can be graded. At the end of the last trimester you must
include the completed and bound final project.
